Postdoctoral researcher - EU research project to improve care for Adolescents and Young Adults (AYA) with cancer
Function description
We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to coordinate a new European research project – JANE2, with a specific focus on Adolescents and Young Adults (AYA) with cancer.
JANE2 (Joint Action on Networks of Expertise -2) is funded by the EU4Health program and will run for four years from November 2024, and will be coordinated by Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori (Italy). JANE2 focuses on establishing and scaling the Networks of Expertise (No E) developed in JANE, promoting European collaboration, and integrating innovative healthcare practices.These efforts are designed to improve the quality of cancer treatment, foster innovation, and align with EU health policies. There is one Work Package fully dedicated to AYA with cancer. The No E on AYAs aims to be the network where healthcare professionals collaborate with NGOs, patient groups and relevant stakeholders about AYA with cancer and where collaboration between paediatric and adult cancer services will be strengthened to improve AYA care, from prevention to survivorship.
The specific objectives follow.- To support the development of AYA dedicated program
- To develop specific clinical recommendations on AYA-specific topics (e.g. age-specific psychosocial support, fertility and sexuality) and different types of cancer across age groups
- To promote cancer research in AYAs
- To raise awareness of cancer in AYAs
- To monitor AYA cancer epidemiology, leveraging what is available or underway
- To define and promote dedicated training on cancer in AYA
- To support Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement
The Netherlands Cancer Institute is heavily involved in this Work Package and will lead the task on AYA cancer indicators. This task will:
- Define Core Outcome Indicators (COIs) for research and clinical care
- Identify relevant data sources (e.g. registries, [longitudinal] cohort studies) to collect these COIs
- Build federated national ecosystems and a pan-European ecosystem with the identified relevant data sources including these COIs. This will build on the work we already perform in the EU HORIZON project STRONG-AYA
You will be responsible for the daily management and coordination of this task in JANE2, under the direct supervision of the Task Leads (Dr. Olga Husson and Prof. Winette van der Graaf). You will play a pivotal liaison role with all internal and external stakeholders, spanning all other tasks of the JANE2 project execution.
These include but are not limited to:
- Development of the COIs in strong collaboration with STRONG-AYA using qualitative and quantitative methods as well as Delphi methodology
- Conduct a scoping review, not only limited to scientific literature, to identify relevant data sources
- Monitoring the overall progress of this Task in JANE2 regarding milestones and deliverables.
- Operationalization and timing of all activities in this JANE2 task.
- Identification of any unanticipated risks.
- Acting as the center of communication between all internal and external stakeholders of this Task in JANE2, including:
- Prompt liaison with the coordination team for the implementation of further risk mitigation strategies.
- Assisting all stakeholders involved in the execution of the work
- Ensuring the involvement of appropriate internal research support structures.
- Champion the preparation of deliverables (direct liaison with JANE2 WP and Task Leaders).
- Preparation of the technical interim and final reports.
- Responsible for data management.
- Ensuring the timely submission of financial reports together with the financial controller.
You will be available for occasional travelling abroad.
Job requirements
We are looking for a candidate with a Ph D degree, preferably in the (para)medical background ((e.g. degree in health sciences, social sciences, medicine) to start as soon as possible.
You have proven expertise in managing and conducting research projects. We are looking for a candidate with exceptional organizational skills. You have the ability to cope with tight deadlines. You also have the ability to work effectively with dynamic and diverse staff.Therefore it is important that you have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a high level of resilience. You have team spirit and the ability to work independently.
Furthermore: Fluent in English (spoken and written).The following skills and qualifications would be a plus:
- International experience or international exposure to best practices in project management.
- Experience/ knowledge in principles and techniques of EU projects planning.
- Experience/ knowledge in DMP.
- Experience with Delphi research and qualitative research methods.
Compensation
What do we offer you?- A temporary employment contract for a minimum period of 1 year. The vacancy is available immediately.
- A salary depending on experience, ranging from € 3.606 to € 5.084 according to salary scale FWG 55 (based on a full-time employment of 36 hours per week). The terms of employment will be in accordance with FWG 55 of the CAO Ziekenhuizen (Collective Labour Agreement for Hospitals).
- 8.33% holiday allowance and a fixed year-end bonus of 8.33%.
- Travel allowance of €0.19 per km.
