Your day as a Mechanical Project Engineer ?

You arrive at the office Monday morning: time for the kick-off meeting, where your colleagues from the electrical, software and assembly department are also present. A customer has ordered us to automate a factor for energy coffee drinks. Cool! As a Mechanical Project Engineer you will work with a multidisciplinary team to make this challenge a success, whilst being responsible for the complete mechanical design of this can handling system.

On your way to work you have already thought about an approach to this challenge. During the meeting you discuss the different mechanical modules that can be reused and the modules that need to be developed based on the other functional specifications from the customer.

After the kick-off meeting, you start with the division of labour. You already take into account future standardization opportunities and an efficient design, that you can realize within the timeframe and budget of this project. Moreover, together with your software and electrical counterpart, you fine-tune the functional specification, guide the mechanical engineers in the execution of their work activities and keep all stakeholders informed of the progress.

Quite a thing, designing a machine that meets customer requirements and our own machine standards.

Time to go home? Before you go, take another look around the production hall. Here your fellow mechanics are working hard on a machine that you and your team adapted to customer specifications a few months ago. It might be useful to see the feedback you have received from them in practice.
