PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Nido Living is seeking an experienced and skilled Group Financial Controller to join our vertically integrated student housing business. The Group Controller will report to the Head of Finance and will be responsible for the consolidation of group entities as well as overseeing treasury activities.

This role is critical for maintaining the financial health and integrity of our portfolio, which spans multiple jurisdictions across Western Europe. The position is based in Amsterdam and requires close collaboration with country controllers as well as other stakeholders.

This is unique chance for an experienced group financial controller to contribute to the establishment of the function, the implementation of systems and procedures and to be key member in the finance team that supports the company in meeting their high growth goals.

Requirements

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to)
  • Financial Consolidation: Responsible the consolidation of property, management and holding companies in various countries and currencies across Western Europe. Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with group accounting standards and regulations. Prepare accounting memo’s on an ad-hoc basis for complex matters such as on acquisitions or financial instruments.
  • Treasury Management: Manage the company’s treasury activities, including cash flow forecasting, liquidity management, and financial risk management. Optimize cash management processes and ensure adequate funding for operations and investments.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Prepare and present consolidated financial reports to senior management and stakeholders. Provide insightful analysis of financial performance and key metrics to support strategic decision-making.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Coordinate the budgeting and forecasting process across the group. Ensure alignment with corporate objectives and provide variance analysis to track performance against budget. Contribute to management reporting for senior management and owners.
  • Taxes: Take responsibility for group tax accounting, oversee and liaise with local tax advisors, contribute to structuring and tax efficient funding and distributions, including transfer pricing.
  • Internal Controls: Contribute to the governance structure and policies of the group by developing and maintaining robust internal controls and financial policies to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with country controllers to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. Provide guidance and support to country teams on accounting and financial matters. Be a steward for group policies and procedures.
  • Audit and Compliance: Coordinate and manage external auditors and ensure compliance with statutory requirements. Liaise with auditors, tax advisors and regulatory authorities as needed.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve financial processes and systems in the relatively new group to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Implement best practices in financial management and reporting.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field. A Master’s Professional accounting qualification (e.g., RA, CPA ACA or ACCA) is mandatory.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in financial management, with at least 3years in a group controller of an international enterprise or similar role. Experience in real estate or student housing is a plus.
  • Skills:
  • Strong technical accounting skills including thorough knowledge of IFRS.. Working experience with other European accounting standards is a plus
  • Proficiency in financial consolidation and reporting.
  • Proper understanding of treasury activities.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial software and ERP systems, with a strong preference for NetSuite experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Fluency in English is mandatory, proficiency in other European languages a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
