React Native Developer (Mobile, NodeJS, GraphQL)

Working as a Front-end developer for AH Store and Supply Chain Tech means you build state-of-the-art apps, while creating an impact on tens of thousands of your colleagues. For this vacancy, we are looking for a React Native developer for @AH: our internal employee app.

Your new team and office:
As a Frontend developer, you are technically co-responsible for the development in the Digital Employee eXperience product team. Our team and product have been built from scratch in the last year, meaning there is no legacy code. The team develops and supports a state-of-the-art app and underlaying platform, which supports our employees in their interaction with Albert Heijn, on and beyond the job.

@AH has over 100.000 daily users; now in our stores but soon everywhere in the AH organization. Employees see the AH news, have chat interactions, see their work schedule, and AI assistant.

The team consists of Front- and Backend developers, a Tech Lead, UX, QA and a Product Owner. You will work on inspiring projects to accelerate our transition into a hybrid Food & Tech company. We want to leverage data and technology to future-proof food shopping and give our customers accessibility to healthy food more easily available for everyone.
At Albert Heijn, you team up with inspiring peers in the data, digital and tech domains. A community of diverse individuals who share a common goal; to create digital solutions that make (online) shopping simpler and more inspiring. Are you ready to reinvent the way millions of people buy and enjoy their food?

We invest heavily in data, digital and tech. And that includes investing in your career! Our teams work in a hybrid way: both from home as well as in the office. We are located right next to the train station Zaandam.

This is how you will reinvent food retail:

  • You are involved from refinement to release and run of the solutions.
  • Build code, implement and execute automated testing, ensure security, and code quality, contribute to best practices and app and play store releases.
  • Add value with your expertise and contribute initiatives for the team and the broader AH Store and Supply Chain Platform.
  • Work closely with the Engineering Manager & Senior Engineer, Product Owner, and our development community.
The right ingredients for an impactful job
  • At Albert Heijn we aim to grow, and this is only possible if you grow along with us. As we work together to build our brand and your career, you can count on (based on 40 hours per week):
  • An annual salary up to 70K including holiday allowance and a flexible bonus. Depending on your experience;
  • 45 days of paid leave to enjoy your well-deserved holidays: 25,5 regular vacation days and 19,5 ADV days. Enjoy!
  • Flexible working hours;
  • Access to a challenging training curriculum – AH Tech Academy;
  • An excellent pension plan where we as an employer contribute 4,5 more than you as an employee;
  • A travel allowance or a NS-business card for traveling to and from Zaandam by train;
  • Attractive discounts on various insurance policies;
  • 10% staff discount on groceries in all Albert Heijn stores, to a maximum of €300 per year;
  • A free Mijn Albert Heijn Premium membership with many benefits;
  • A company laptop and telephone.

The recipe for maximum impact:

We think it’s important to be part of an high-belonging team; a team where you can be yourself and feel safe, accepted and appreciated. For this job we are preferably looking for someone who brings diversity in our team, in the widest possible sense. Someone who is a great addition to our team by bringing other ideas to the table. So don’t check all the boxes? Don’t worry, we probably don’t either ?. Don’t hesitate to apply if you think you are up for the challenge, we’re happy to have a look at your resume! But what we look for in a candidate is the following:

  • Strong understanding of React Native and its principles is a must.
  • Familiar with app compilation, review and release in App- and Play Store.
  • Passionate about tech and building products your colleagues love.
  • Excellent communication skills, open, transparent, and motivated to continuously help the team grow.
  • An outstanding command of the English language, speaking Dutch is not a must.

Bonus points for:

  • Experience with GraphQL, Node.js or similar.
  • Experience with Azure, or any other cloud provider.

Interview Process:

The first step is reviewing your resume and plan a (video) call with our tech recruiter Carly DeSantis, where she will tell you a bit more about the position and if you have any questions you can ask them. The next step is a technical assignment to tackle at home, which we use to understand if your programming style matches what we look for in a colleague.

If it does, we follow up with a relaxed 1-hour chat, where we talk about the assessment, your experiences, and some day-to-day technical stuff you don’t really need any preparation for. At last there’s a 30-min chat with the Head of Tech and our PO to get to know each other and tell you more about the direction and ambitions of the team.
