The Managing editor at TNW is responsible for ensuring the smooth content operation and steering its direction together with the Events Director and the Event Content team.
The role
In practice, this means coming up with story ideas, owning the editorial calendar, ensuring the deadlines are met, editing the writers' output, as well as writing several stories a week depending on the workload.

- Keeping a close connection with the Event Content team to ensure alignment on key themes and audiences.
- Maintaining and extending a pool of high-quality freelance writers available for commission.
- Managing the day-to-day operations of the newsroom and a team of freelance writers .
- Vetting pitches, coming up with angles and topics, and assigning stories to the freelancers.
- Editing and publishing/scheduling stories coming from freelance writers and guest contributors.
- Writing as many stories as the workload allows.
- Ensuring the constant flow of content at the website (~20 stories a week including freelance contributions, pieces produced in-house, branded content, guest posts, etc.).
- Owning the content calendar and making sure we're sticking to it.
- Taking part in TNW's events throughout the year as a panel moderator, interviewer, or stage host.
- Representing TNW (Media) at relevant startup and technology events.
- Participating in the weekly TNW Podcast (writing part of the script, recording occasional interviews, co-hosting).
- Running and tracking the effectiveness of social media posts for the content published on the website.
- Supporting the Head of Media in sourcing guest contributions from relevant ecosystem players.
- Strong (tech) journalism background: at least 5 years of experience in writing and editing.
- In-depth knowledge of Europe's tech startup scene.
- Good understanding of the main technology trends that define the global innovation landscape.
- Track record of managing a team of (freelance) reporters.
- Ability to work from our Amsterdam office at least two days a week.
